The Red Hat Enterprise Deployment, Virtualization, and Systems Management Endorsement Exam is a performance-based test of the skills covered in RH401 Red Hat Enterprise Deployment and Systems Management. In order to enroll in this exam, one must have an RHCE on a current release at the time of the exam. Upon passing the exam, one will have earned an additional endorsement to one’s RHCE certification. This endorsement is one of the five required in order to earn the designation Red Hat Certified Architect.
Each course in the RHCA curriculum is followed by an endorsement exam on the fifth day. Endorsement exams may be taken immediately following the corresponding course, or at any time. The exams are performance-based and test skills of the job role competencies covered in the prior four days of hands-on training. Passing the Endorsement Exam earns the candidate an endorsement to his or her RHCE credential for that specific enterprise skillset. Endorsement exams vary in length from 2 to 8 hours depending on the course, and can only be taken by current RHCEs. Official notification of PASS or DID NOT PASS is sent via email within 3 weeks of the Endorsement Exam.
The exams cost $749 on their own or $549 when purchased together with the corresponding class scheduled in same week.
Only RHCEs on a current release may take this exam. All candidates are strongly advised to take RH401 Red Hat Enterprise Deployment and Systems Management in advance of attempting this exam, and are further advised to gain practical experience with the skills covered in that class prior to attempting the exam.

Clustering material moved to RH436
The RH401 course has been modified to focus more closely on deployment and systems management. As a result, course material on clustering has been removed from this course and moved to RH436.
RH401 now includes expanded material on the use of the Red Hat Network Satellite Server, including expanded coverage of the Red Hat Network Proxy Server; new material on monitoring using the Red Hat Network Satellite Server; and the use of DHCP and PXE boot for deployment.
In addition, the RH401 course now includes a technology preview of the Xen virtualization system using Fedora Core 5.
