CONTENT DISTRIBUTION

VeriSign Mobile Commerce and Content Services enable carriers and service providers to deliver innovative new services to their customers by providing “trusted middleware” that reduces the complexity of managing the mobile content value chain – distribution, rights management, copyright clearing, and financial settlement. The VeriSign service bureau platform enables providers to deliver ringtones, graphics, games, applications and other digital content through customized, branded, content acquisition portals.

Mobile Marketing Best Practices

VeriSign joined the leading wireless carriers and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) in developing the Mobile Marketing Association’s (MMA) consumer best practices guidelines for cross-carrier mobile content services. The shared goal of key contributors to the guidelines – the CTIA, MMA, leading wireless carriers, and VeriSign – is to ensure a positive consumer experience when interacting with mobile content services. The guidelines include a distinct set of best practices ranging from advertising and promotion standards to opt-in and opt-out requirements. The guidelines detail the necessary steps that carriers and content aggregators must adopt to be in compliance.

Mobile Content Guidelines

As a member of the Mobile Content Action Team of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association’s (CTIA) Wireless Internet Caucus (WIC), VeriSign is actively working with other wireless industry leaders to develop solutions and best practices that facilitate secure and accessible distribution of all forms of mobile content. The Action Team is working to establish industry standards and guidelines for the use of digital rights management solutions, and best practices and guidelines for identification and handling of content types used in mobile content to ensure a compelling user experience.

Intellectual Property

As a mobile content service provider and technology-intensive company, VeriSign is keenly aware of the role played by intellectual property protection in fostering innovation. Patents and copyrights have played a decisive role in the development of semiconductors, computers, software, and networks, including the Internet. VeriSign actively participates in efforts to resolve these issues in a way that balances consumer protection, proprietary interests, and the continued, stable growth of the Internet. Our areas of focus include database protection, business method patents, and enforcement of trademark rights within the Internet’s domain name system.
