6 Free Autodesk University On-Demand Classes for Govies

Can’t make it to Autodesk University (AU) this year? Anyone can join the AU community for free and enjoy on-demand classes from your desktop. Here are a few we’ve narrowed down that are specifically for and about the public sector.

aco

1. Managing CAD and Enterprise Geospatial Data on a Military Installation

Although this class discusses the experiences and best practices at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, any user can benefit from this overview of a “how-to” approach to managing construction as-builts, surveying methods, and geospatial enterprise data using Map 3D, Civil 3D and ESRI and Trimble solutions.

Presented by Catherine Hall, Chief, Geospatial Office at Nellis AFB, you’ll learn how going back to basics streamlined the Nellis AFB business process and limited IT support challenges. View the class.

2. Streamlined Workflows for Management of Combined Sewer and Sanitary Networks

This class covers management of combined sewer and stormwater networks, working all the way from industry models in Map 3D software to analysis in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis software. It also explores the use of Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler (now known as Infraworks) and Civil 3D software to meet design requirements and communicate the intended design. This class dives into workflows that will streamline everyday tasks by eliminating the unnecessary transfer of data. View the class.

3. AutoCAD Civil 3D: An All-Around Geospatial Software Package

Another learning moment from Nellis AFB, who struggled to manage geospatial data across three different platforms:  In their current scenario, data was collected and processed using Trimble, then imported into ArcSDE using ESRI or Map 3D, then Map 3D was used for project designs and as-built management. This class explains how the process can be simplified using Civil 3D as a “cradle-to-grave” spatial data software package. This class will also cover brief software installation struggles in a military environment. View the class.

4. Bringing BIM to Roundabout (Rotary) Design Saves Time and Money and Produces BetterDesigns

Department of transportation employees will be interested in this insight into how BIM techniques are being used to speed up the roundabout (or rotary to us Americans) analysis and design cycle, leading to faster iterations and ultimately, better designs. The class shows how three industry-leading products have been linked to create a single model with dynamic links between them and real-time validation feedback. A process that used to take several days of re-analyzing a roundabout design following a change is now possible in real-time, enabling the user to investigate and visualize more alternatives and make more considered recommendations. 5. How The Florida Department of Transportation Implemented AutoCAD Civil 3D

This class from 2011, shows how the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing Civil 3D as an alternative design software for consultants to use. FDOT had traditionally used Bentley MicroStation and GEOPAK software for transportation projects, and will continue to do so. However, the department has developed a very robust Civil 3D state kit to provide more opportunity for consultants who may not use Bentley software. This class examines FDOT’s unique and customized CAD configuration and how they implemented it in Civil 3D, and it will confirm that Civil 3D is a true transportation-ready product. View the class.

6.  AutoCAD Civil 3D: Land Acquisition, Dynamic Border Extraction, and Parcels and Tables

Want to learn how to create and edit land acquisition borders with AutoCAD Civil 3D? This class is for you.  Take a data journey from land registration to sites with alignments, gradients, and sections to grading, then circle back to the starting point. You will discover the benefits of parcels and tables and learn how to minimize land purchase costs with the dynamic functions available in AutoCAD Civil 3D. View the class.

There’s More!
