[acronym] Magazine Launches the 2012 Public Sector CAD Awards
Herndon, VA - September 14, 2012 – [acronym] Magazine, the only print publication and industry blog dedicated to those in the government working within the computer-aided design (CAD), GIS, architecture, manufacturing, and engineering disciplines, this week launched the second annual [acronym] Magazine Public Sector CAD Awards.
The [acronym] Magazine CAD Awards is an innovation contest that challenges the public sector, and the contractors that support it, to share the creative ways they have used digital design/CAD software to improve the performance of their agency and enhance the delivery of citizen-centric services.
“Whether they are working with CAD software, building information modeling (BIM), or other engineering and design tools – we want to honor the achievements of those who work in public sector digital design and give them an opportunity to showcase their work to their peers and the media,” said Caron Beesley, Editor, [acronym] magazine.
“Last year’s winners and runners up proved that digital design is about so much more than lines on a screen or blueprint. It transforms the way the public sector plans, designs, builds and manages projects – including buildings, roads and highways, public works, manufacturing prototypes, and more,” explained Beesley.
“For example, last year’s, winning entry came from Joe Porostosky of The Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University – one of the nation’s largest medical centers. Porostosky and his team achieved the staggering feat of transforming traditional 2D AutoCAD floor plans of the Medical Center into six million square feet of BIM to help improve the visual presentation of facility floor plans and conduct energy modeling,” said Beesley. Runners up included the New York Department of Design and Construction, and Rich 3D, a government contractor.
