Layered Security Strategies for the Health Sector: An ICIT Briefing

Our very own Chief Cybersecurity Technologist and Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology (ICIT) fellow, Don Maclean, recently joined fellow fellows Robert Lord (Protenus), John Menkahart (Securonix), Dr. Ron Ross (NIST) and ICIT co-founder and senior fellow, Parham Eftekhari on Capitol Hill to discuss the risks and threats associated with cyber attacks on healthcare facilities.

The briefing attended by Senate staffers, federal agency leaders and health sector executives consisted of two expert panels organized by ICIT to discuss findings from the organization’s report entitled, Your Life, Repackaged and Resold: The Deep Web Exploitation of Health Sector Breach Victims, which focuses on the cybersecurity challenges facing health sector organizations. During this panel, the ICIT experts discuss:

• The size and scale of threats and attacks

• The technology needed to combat these threats

• Mandates for protection

• Partnership between government and industry

• Personnel and resource needs and requirements
