AFCEA Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Summit

Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - 07:00 to 13:00
The National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20045

Artificial intelligence (AI), according to a recent executive order, is essential to maintaining the economic and national security of the United States. It is also the foundation for a new generation of applications that are changing how the Department of Defense and other agencies manage their operations and carry out their missions. And that change is happening fast. The 2018 National Defense Strategy identifies AI as one of the key technologies needed to ensure that the United States will be prepared to fight and win the wars of the future, with defense leaders saying it will penetrate every corner of DoD operations.

DoD already is accelerating its efforts to deliver AI-enabled capabilities that address key missions, while also scaling AI’s impact across DoD through a common foundation that enables decentralized development and experimentation, according to the recently-released "Summary of the 2018 Department of Defense AI Strategy."

The challenge, now, is to understand how to incorporate AI, machine learning (ML) and related technologies into those existing operations—and how to leverage those capabilities to the full extent possible. What are the key considerations before embarking on an AL/ML program? What are the key ingredients for success—in terms of technology, policies, processes and workforce development? And where are the emerging use cases, both in business and mission operations?

This event will bring together thought-leaders from government and industry to discuss how AI and ML are reshaping DoD.
