Mountain Empire Community College Adopts Oracle's Network Computer Technology

Herndon, Va., February 25, 1998---DLT Solutions, the exclusive value-added reseller (VAR) and distributor of NCI, an Oracle-affiliate network computer company, announced the adoption of an Oracle network computer solution on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College located in Big Stone Gap, Va.

The advantage to network computers is the ability for students and faculty to conduct Internet- and web-based research for a fraction of the cost and maintenance requirements that it takes to install desktop PC computers. The network-centric technology behind network computers empowers computer resource centers to provide innovative resources to its students, while spending less time and money on installation, security, maintenance and training.

"Our public access computers in the library were reaching maximum usage," said Rick Campbell, Director of the Center for Computing and Information Technology at MECC. "The network computers allowed us to provide significant computing opportunities to our students that require Internet-and web-based research activities while at the same time reducing our total cost of ownership."

Network Computers are inexpensive alternatives to PCs that enable users to access Intranet and Internet applications, communicate via electronic mail (e-mail), run Java applications, and utilize applications within legacy systems. A Network Computer solution combines scalable servers, network clients and open standards to deliver lower cost-of-ownership and maintenance requirements, while providing additional security to educational computing environments.
