Race for the Cup 2011

On your mark, get set, go! The contestants furiously ripped open their packet, which contained the 20 clues that they would be following for the next two hours. Race for the Cup 2011 had begun. The DLT Race for the Cup is a picture scavenger hunt which takes place in the Washington D.C. metro area. A couple of years ago the DLT Social Committee, an employee-led group that focuses on employee events and morale, started the event as a team building activity. However, this annual scavenger hunt has quickly become one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. On Friday, June 24th teams of about eight people piled into limos and party busses ready to have the time of their life. Their goal was simple, solve as many of the 20 clues as they could and be back to a dedicated meeting spot by nine o’clock that night. Each team was competing for a chance to have their name on the highly prize Race for the Cup trophy, nicknamed the Babar Cup. The clues range from forming a human pyramid to finding the “bacteria central” in Tyson’s mall. Each picture earned the team points as well as countless memories. Perhaps one of the reasons that employees of DLT Solutions love the race so much is that it is a chance to relax, let loose, spend time with friends, and bring out their competitive side. As one employee describes,
“RFTC was like standing shoulder to shoulder with my fellow comrades and marching into an epic battle against good and evil on the hills of Gandor…it was wicked awesome!”
besides being a superb event, the race raised over $2,500, which was donated to charity through the DLT Foundation. Although my team didn’t win we still had an amazing time. We will be ready and anticipating next year’s Race for the Cup. The wining team with a grand total of 6,950 points.
