On June 2nd, President Trump signed a new AI executive order, Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security, which aims to strike a balance between AI innovation and security. The order directs federal agencies to strengthen AI-enabled cybersecurity defenses and coordinate with private industry on secure AI deployments.

Reshaping Federal Logging Requirements 

As of late May, 2026, logging requirements for federal agencies will shift from a volume-driven mindset to a risk-based logging approach. The previous logging requirements published in 2021 via OMB Memo M-21-31 have been rescinded with the publication of OMB’s latest memo M-26-14, calling the logging of cyber incidents across federal agencies to include both Continuous Event Monitoring (CEM) and Threat Hunting, Investigation, Response and Forensics (THIRF).

In early June, President Trump released an Executive Order designed to modify sections of Orders 13694 and 14144 previously released by former administrations and “strengthen the nation’s cybersecurity by focusing on critical protections against foreign cyber threats and enhancing secure technology practices.” We’ll look at the latest provisions and implications therein specifically to software, quantum and AI development.

President Biden has recently issued the “Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity”, which requires government agencies to present plans for implementing a Zero Trust architecture, imposes stringent standards for threat sharing on government contractors and agencies alike, requires software vendors to show a Software Bill of Materials to demonstrate the security of their products, and seeks broad modernization of the Federal government’s cybersecurity posture.
