The concept of leveraging data as a strategic asset (which is a key piece of the President’s Management Agenda) is not some lofty ideal—it is a necessity. The opioid crisis is a perfect example of how to leverage data as an asset to solve real world problems. The root causes associated with the spread of the crisis became apparent only after analysts began mining data, and that same data will provide the parameters for any effort to mitigate the crisis.
