Cloud Computing

Navigating through the security and compliance of virtualization and the public sector cloud can be daunting. Questions like, “What is cloud?” and “How can I plan and implement cloud solutions in my environment?” are still unanswered for most agencies.

Cloud Computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand.

Substantial cost savings, consolidation, modernization and streamlining of government IT operations are the major benefits of moving to cloud-based solutions. The impacts of which can be felt across federal, state and local agencies.

Dedicated to providing customers with knowledge and advice on cloud computing technology, the DLT Cloud Advisory Group will help you navigate current mandates, available solutions and the best options for your agency environment.

In this video, David Blankenhorn, Chief Cloud Technologist, discusses why open source is such an important option for government.

The term Cloud Computing is widely used, but it is important to know that all cloud models are not the same. Cloud Models can be segmented into Software as a Service (Saas), Platform as a service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Each of these models offers different service levels and functionality for the cloud, including applications, operating environment, as well as servers, software, data center space or network equipment.

DLT's Cloud Management

Cloud Management tools allow you to manage all of your cloud computing solutions with a single management system. This is done by enabling different virtual machines to be transferred or migrated in real time from one virtualization capacity to another.

While the advantages of cloud computing are clear, many agencies continue to be concerned about security and privacy issues associated with the “as-a-service” models. No two clouds are the same, and it is important to consider the differences and similarities across all models when evaluating cloud security. An understanding of the basics of cloud security includes key security and privacy issues, advancement in cloud security, top threats and risks, and cautions and considerations when implementing cloud technologies.

Private Clouds or Internal Clouds can be made up from all of Cloud Computing models. Ranging from SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS depending on what your agency is currently using.
