Empire State Building Sustainability Project

The Empire State Building in New York City is one of the most iconic modern buildings of our time.  Built in 1930, the height of the building and speed of construction made it one of the seven wonders of the modern world.  However, the engineers and architects of the 1930’s did not exactly consider such things as sustainability or carbon footprint. Starting in 2008, several teams started the impressive task of a major retrofit project of the Empire State Building to make it more energy efficient and bring it into the 21st century.  You can see the project highlights at http://www.esbsustainability.com.  It’s a captivating website with interactive visual elements that highlights the project stages and goals. The hope is that the Empire State Building can once again be a symbol of American technological innovation and pioneering for the future. If you don’t have time to visit the site, take a few minutes to watch this video overview. It’s definitely worth your time!
