Let’s Hear it for our “Magic Quadrant” Vendor Partners

Proof of performance is a key criterion for any government decision maker when reviewing potential vendors and bidders. One such “proof” is recognition from industry analysts, and perhaps the most sought after of these is to be positioned (and ranked highly) in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant reports.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a graphical portrayal of vendor performance in a market segment, including categories for leaders, challengers, visionaries and niche players. Criteria by which the vendors are measured include a company's completeness of vision and ability to execute.

With a flurry of new reports released recently, we thought we’d showcase DLT vendor partners who have earned their rightful place among Gartner’s “Leaders”, “Visionaries”, and “Challengers” in the past 12 months:

Amazon Web Services – Cloud Services

DLT partner, Amazon continued its unrivaled rein at the top of the leaders quadrant in the most recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service. Amazon has "five times the IaaS cloud compute capacity in use than the aggregate total of the other 14 providers," said Gartner analysts.

Amazon also offers “the richest array of IaaS features and PaaS-like capabilities and continues to expand its service offerings. It is the provider most frequently chosen for strategic adoption," the Gartner Magic Quadrant analysts reported. Symantec – Endpoint Protection

In January of this year, Symantec was named a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection platforms, a position it has held for 12 years.  The report had this to say: “Protection from common malware, as well as more advanced persistent threats, is the top critical consideration for EPP buyers.” The report further states that the rise of targeted attacks is “shredding what is left of the anti-malware markets stubborn insistence in reactive protection techniques,” and highlights the need for EPP solutions to be “more proactive and focus on the entire security lifecycle” to be successful in the future. DLT is Symantec’s largest federal partner and Symantec Platinum Partner. Read more about Endpoint Protection from Symantec.

Informatica – Data Masking Technology

Late last year, Gartner positioned Informatica as a leader in its 2014 Magic Quadrant for Data Masking Technology. “Global-scale scandals around sensitive data losses have highlighted the need for effective data protection, especially from insider attacks. Data masking, which is focused on protecting data from insiders and outsiders, is a must-have technology in enterprises’ and governments’ security portfolios,” said Gartner.

Red Hat – Enterprise Application Platform-as-a-Service

Last year, Gartner validated hybrid cloud by recognizing Red Hat’s open source PaaS offering – OpenShift – as a visionary in its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Platform-as-a-Service. “Red Hat's open-source, Linux and Java history and expertise make it a good choice for those looking for familiar Java programming for cloud computing.”

ForeScout – Network Access Control

ForeScout is a leader in providing continuous monitoring and mitigation solutions, was recently awarded its fourth consecutive spot as a leader in Gartner’s 2014 Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control. “Most NAC vendors provide good support for the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) use case. Now, the market is evolving to address another use case, where NAC policy servers act as ‘warehouses of context’ and share contextual data with firewalls and other security components to enable fine-grained policy enforcement.”

Akamai – Web Application Firewalls

In the first ever Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) released last year, Gartner recognized Akamai as a “Challenger”. According to Gartner: "By year-end 2020, more than 50% of public Web applications protected by a WAF will use WAFs delivered as a cloud service or Internet-hosted virtual appliance — up from less than 10% today." Read more about Akamai’s application layer defense solution – Kona Web Application Firewall.

Oracle – Application Integration Suites

In August of last year, Oracle was named a leader in the Gartner 2014 Magic Quadrant for On-Premises Application Integration Suites.

AlienVault - Unified Security Management (USM)

Last but not least, AlienVault was named a visionary in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management last June. According to Gartner analysts, AlienVault’s security management solution, USM, “provides integrated capabilities for SIEM, file integrity monitoring, vulnerability assessment, NetFlow and both host-based and network-based intrusion detection systems.” Additionally, the software is significantly less expensive than other products from competitors in the SIEM space, keeping customers happy.
